Privacy Policy
Last updated
ReelXo is built so you can make reels without handing over your data. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with information on your phone and the few things that go online.
1. The short version
- No account. You don't sign up or log in, and we don't assign you a user ID.
- Your media stays on your phone. Photos, videos, voiceovers and finished reels are stored and processed on your device. ReelXo does not upload them to us or anyone else.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. The app contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK, and does not track you across apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share personal data, because we don't collect it in the first place.
- The app does go online to fetch templates and music, as described in What goes online.
2. Who we are and what this covers
This policy covers the ReelXo mobile app for Android and iPhone and this website, reelxo.tech. In this policy, "ReelXo", "we" and "us" mean the team that makes the app. You can reach us at hello@reelxo.tech.
3. What stays on your device
These are created and kept inside the app's private storage on your phone. We never receive them.
- Photos and videos you add to a reel. When you pick media from your gallery or camera, ReelXo copies it into the project so the reel keeps working if the original is deleted.
- Camera recordings and voiceovers you record in the app.
- Your projects and exported reels (MP4 files), which are rendered on the device.
- Subject cutouts. When a template cuts a person or object out of a photo, that is done on your phone (Google ML Kit on Android, Apple's Vision framework on iPhone). The photo is not sent to a server.
- Optional profile details you type on the You tab (name, handle, website), your app settings and the templates you save. These are kept in local app storage and are not sent anywhere.
4. What goes online
ReelXo needs the internet for a few things. None of them send your photos, videos or profile.
| Feature | Service | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Template catalogue and template previews | Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and file hosting) and Pexels image servers | A request to read the catalogue and download template files, previews and sample videos. Nothing is written to our database. |
| Music library | Openverse (api.openverse.org) and the sites that host each track | The search words you type and the filters you choose, then a download request for the track you pick. |
| Place-name suggestions | Your phone's built-in geocoder (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) | One latitude and longitude, only when a template has a place line. See Photo location. |
Like any internet request, these services receive technical information such as your IP address, device type and app version so they can respond. They handle that under their own privacy policies: Google, Pexels, Openverse (WordPress.org) and Apple. The Firebase software in the app may also send Google basic diagnostic information about how the SDK is working. On Android, Google Play services downloads the on-device cutout model when the app is installed.
5. Photo location
Some templates show where a trip happened, for example a city name stamped on a travel reel. For those templates only, ReelXo reads the location saved in the photos you picked (if your camera recorded one), picks one representative point, and asks your phone's built-in geocoder to turn it into a place name. The name is offered as a suggestion you can edit or delete.
ReelXo does not use GPS, does not track your location, and does not store the coordinates. On Android this is why the app asks for the "media location" permission. If you don't want this, turn location off in your camera settings, or type the place yourself.
6. Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Photos and videos (photo library) | So you can pick photos and clips for your reel. |
| Camera | So you can record a clip or take a photo straight into your reel. |
| Microphone | So you can record a voiceover. |
| Audio files (Android) | Part of Android's media access, used for media in your projects. |
| Media location (Android) | To read where a photo was taken for place-name suggestions, as described above. |
| Internet | To download templates and music. |
Every permission is optional. If you decline one, the related feature won't work, but the rest of the app will. You can change permissions at any time in your phone's settings.
8. This website
reelxo.tech has no sign-up, no contact forms, no advertising and no analytics or tracking cookies. It is served by Vercel, which processes standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the site, under Vercel's privacy policy. Links to the App Store and Google Play take you to those stores, which have their own policies.
9. Deleting your data
Because your data lives on your phone, you control it directly:
- Delete a project or an exported reel inside the app.
- Clear the app's storage in your phone settings to remove all projects, media copies, settings and profile details.
- Uninstall ReelXo to remove everything the app stored.
Reels you shared to other apps stay there until you delete them in those apps. We hold no copy of your data on our servers, so there is nothing for us to delete, but you can still write to hello@reelxo.tech with any privacy question.
10. Children
ReelXo is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe, the UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or US state privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to its use. Since ReelXo does not collect personal data on its servers, these requests are usually satisfied by the controls in Deleting your data. If you have a question or complaint, contact hello@reelxo.tech and we'll reply.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, for example by adding a feature that needs the internet, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version is released. See also our Terms of Use and Support page.
